Inwood landlord defends controversial renovation

The new landlord of an Inwood apartment complex dismissed residents' complaints about a controversial renovation project Thursday.
Residents say they are concerned for their safety after the work left wires exposed and has led to multiple losses of power.
A Town of Hempstead representative says that officials issued a permit for the work Wednesday, but residents say the work actually began more than a month ago.
Daniel Goldstein, one of the new owners, says that part of the $3 million renovation already underway does not require a permit. He says residents will receive new gas and water systems by the end of September.
"You can't do something overnight," he says.
Officials say the best way to ensure that work is being done safely is for the owner to allow town inspectors a look at the premises.
