Limo driver returns home after fatal East End crash
The driver of the limo involved in a fatal East End crash over the weekend is back at his Old Bethpage home.
As News 12 has reported, Carlos Pino was driving on Route 48 with a party of eight women in Cutchogue before attempting a U-turn at Depot Lane. The limo was then struck by a pickup truck driven by Steven Romero, killing four of the women and injuring another four.
News 12 is told Pino was spotted Tuesday with a cast on his arm.
No charges were filed against Pino, but there are still a number of unanswered questions regarding what happened that evening. Romeo was arraigned on a charge of driving while intoxicated and is being held on $1 million bond.
Officials say other limo drivers have been ticketed for making three-point turns and blocking traffic on the busy roadway.
"You have to swing way out and then make the turn. Many of them are virtually blocking the two westbound lanes. Then, they're backing up and continuing on into the westbound lanes of traffic," says Suffolk District Attorney Tom Spota.
Prosecutors say Pino told them he never saw the pickup truck coming.
Romeo is due back in court on Friday, and prosecutors say charges against him could be upgraded.
In the meantime, loved ones of Brittney Schulman gathered outside a Smithtown funeral home for her wake Wednesday afternoon. Lauren Baruch, Stephanie Belli and Amy Grabina were also killed in the crash.
