ShotSpotter system coming to Long Beach
Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford says that a high-tech crime fighting tool is coming to Long Beach.
The ShotSpotter, a high-tech gunshot detection system, is being implemented in the wake of recent shootings in the North Park area, according to Ford.
Officials say that a stray bullet grazed a 4-year-old boy in a Channel Park home last month.
Ford secured $500,000 to fund the system for the next five years. She says that the program is just another important tool in reducing gun violence in the city.
Police say they are also doing special patrols in the area and installing new security cameras at Channel Park homes in an effort to reduce violent crime.
The ShotSpotter system will be in place this fall.
