Kayaker rescued near Fire Island Inlet

A distressed kayaker was rescued in the waters off Babylon near the Fire Island Inlet on Sunday.
The Coast Guard, Suffolk County Marine Bureau and the Suffolk aviation unit responded to a report about the kayaker.
The man, who was not wearing a life jacket, was located in the waters off Gilgo State Park. He reported that he had been treading water for about 45 minutes.
He was not injured.
"It's very important to wear a life jacket whenever you're on the water," said Coast Guard Petty Officer Christopher Crociata. "The kayaker wasn't wearing one and he could have died because of it."
