Owner claims to cease illegal towing business

A Manhasset business owner claims that he will cease the operation of his illegal towing business that has frustrated residents for years.
As previously reported, residents on Lakeville Road say the gas station turned towing operation has been keeping the neighborhood up at night for three years. They say the station does not have the proper permits within the Town of North Hempstead to operate as a towing company.
"The town has gotten our applications for years, every year on time," the station's owner's son told News 12 on Friday. "They just failed to respond with a denial or an acceptance."
Lakeville Towing owner Steven Coppolino announced that he withdrew his appeal with the town on Wednesday. He also said that he will no longer operate tow trucks at his gas station.
Town attorney Mitchell Pitnick says that since the appeal has been withdrawn, the town can proceed with an injunction in court, if necessary.
