Man robs Valley Stream store at knife point
A Valley Stream store was robbed at knife point Tuesday afternoon in the latest in a series of holdups.
Store owners at Select Beauty Supply on North Central Avenue say the suspect calmly walked up to the cashier and brandished a large knife. He then emptied the cash register and fled the scene.
Detectives say they believe the man is responsible for nine recent knife-point robberies in the Valley Stream area. The first six robberies occurred in February, March and April. A three-month break followed, and then police say the suspect robbed a Little Caesars pizzeria on Linden Boulevard in Elmont.
A shopkeeper says a surveillance photo of a suspect from a previous knife-point robbery fits the description of Tuesday's incident.
Police describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, who often wore a dark hood and gloves during the robberies.
Anyone with information about the robberies is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
