Train strikes, kills person in Ronkonkoma

The LIRR is investigating after a train struck and killed a person early Wednesday on the tracks west of the Ronkonkoma station.

Officials say the person was struck at around 2:45 a.m.

According to the MTA, an unidentified Holbrook man walked onto the tracks as the train was approaching the station.

The train was held at the scene for about two hours, and there was no service between Ronkonkoma and Central Islip during that time.

Service has since resumed.
