2 arrested in grocery-store gambling raid
Most people go to grocery stores for food, but police say an illegal gambling ring was occurring at a New Cassel grocery store.
Aurel Bonhomme, 70, and Jean Celestin, 51, were arrested for allegedly taking illegal bets after authorities raided Rose Grocery on Prospect Avenue last week. Celestin owns the store, according to police. He now faces charges of possession of gambling records and promoting gambling.
Bonhomme is charged with conspiracy.
Authorities say they found about 50 cases of untaxed rum from Haiti and about $30,000 in cash during the raid.
