Man accused of seriously injuring girl in crash
A man faces charges after he allegedly struck a family's vehicle, leaving it mangled and seriously injuring a girl.
Police say Brandon Cumberbatch, 21, of Ridge, was high on drugs when he hit a minivan on Route 111 in Hauppauge at around 7:15 p.m. Monday.
A 7-year-old girl who was inside the minivan was seriously injured. She sustained a fractured skull and facial injuries. The girl's mother and brother, who were also in the minivan, sustained minor injuries.
According to police, Cumberbatch's car also veered onto the shoulder, over a curb and into the parking lot of Hauppauge Plaza, where it struck a parked car.
Cumberbatch faces charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs.
