Sagamore Hill reopens after restoration
Theodore Roosevelt's recently refurbished Oyster Bay home reopened to the public on Sunday.
Sagamore Hill was closed for several years to undergo reconstruction that aimed to restore the property to its glory days of Roosevelt residence. The multimillion-dollar project began in 2008.
The home's electrical wiring needed to be redone, and other items, like the windows, needed attention. But experts say the structure now holds true to the way Theodore Roosevelt left it.
People from all over Long Island and beyond turned out to get a glimpse of American history. Some of the 26th president's great-grandchildren were also present at the reopening on Sunday, and praised the exceptional work that went into the restoration.
Full tours of the property will be offered starting Monday morning.
