Landlord accused of firing shotgun at tenant
A Mattituck landlord is accused of firing a shotgun at one of his tenants.
According to Newsday, Douglas Cooper was arrested at his home on Breakwater Road Friday night.
Police say the 67-year-old landlord fired a shotgun at his tenant after they got into a fight over rent.
The tenant was not hit by the blast.
Cooper is facing charges that include menacing and reckless endangerment.
Newsday reports that Cooper is a longtime member of the Mattituck-Cutchogue School Board.
Cooper told the newspaper that he was firing the gun "to scare the deer out" of his property, and that he did not fire toward anyone.
