Service member home on leave critical after crash

A Mattituck man who serves in the military was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Montauk earlier this week.

Benjamin Pileski was walking with another man when they were both struck by a van last Sunday on Route 27.

News 12 is told that Pileski is currently in a coma. He has undergone several surgeries, according to a Facebook page set up by his family to provide updates on his condition.

Pileski's family says he is in the Navy and was home on leave when the accident happened.

The driver of the van has not been charged.
