Police say a Merrick woman struck and killed a pedestrian in Freeport on the Fourth of July, and then fled the scene.
Investigators say the unidentified male victim was crossing Sunrise Highway near Buffalo Avenue Saturday night when he was fatally struck.
Police say the driver, 66-year-old Stephanie Beeker, did not stop at the scene.
Beeker was eventually arrested in Baldwin. She was arraigned Sunday at court in Hempstead on a charge of leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
Police have not said what they believe may have caused the crash.
