Greenport Tall Ships festival kicks off

The ships are in at Greenport Harbor as the Greenport Tall Ships Festival kicks off today.

Bill and Jan Claudio, of the famed Claudio's Restaurant in Greenport's historic marina, are sponsors for the festival.

Greenport is a frequent destination for the historically inspired ships, which include replicas of sailing vessels from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The highlight of the four-day festival will be tours on the boats and the history behind them.

There is also a variety of activities and special events going on at the waterfront of Mitchell Park in Greenport.

The collection ships out Tuesday.
