More delays expected for East Side Access project

More delays could hold up a project to link the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal.
The East Side Access, a tunnel project from Queens into Grand Central Terminal, was projected to be finished in 2009, but delays in cost overruns have more than doubled the project's bill. The delays have pushed the expected completion date to December 2022.
Funding delays in Albany could push the completion date back even further if lawmakers don't approve the MTA's capital program.
For some riders, the East Side Access project could shave up to 40 minutes off commutes and relieve an already overcrowded Penn Station.
MTA Chief Thomas Prendergast says he remains positive that lawmakers will approve the funding before the East Side Access project is seriously delayed.
