LIers attend annual pride parade in Manhattan
Hundreds of Long Islanders made their way to Manhattan Sunday for the annual New York City Pride Parade.
This year's celebration came in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.
Record-breaking crowds of more than 2 million people were estimated to have attended the 22nd annual parade, making it the largest of its kind. Actors Sir Ian McKellan and Sir Derek Jacobi served as the parade's grand marshals.
To honor the Supreme Court's ruling, Gov. Andrew Cuomo officiated a same-sex marriage before the parade in front of the Stonewall Inn. The bar is considered by many to be the birthplace of the gay rights movement.
The parade route ran along Fifth Avenue to the West Village.
