An East Meadow father and son are accused of scamming potential car buyers.

Police say Cory Vlado, 45, and his son Steve Vlado, 29, changed the mileage totals of cars they were trying to sell. They allegedly sold the used cars at a vacant retail business at 2807 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, using it as their own mini-dealership.

According to detectives, five of the six cars for sale had their odometers altered, and in one case, the actual mileage discrepancy was in excess of 197,000 miles. The scam was an effort to gain more money from unsuspecting buyers, police say.

The father and son live on Freeman Avenue in East Meadow. Neighbors who spoke with News 12 say they were annoyed by the amount of cars that the suspects would park on the street, some of which had fake license plates.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and other charges. They are due back in court Wednesday.
