Nassau traffic court turns away dress code violators
Some people were turned away from traffic court in Nassau Thursday for not observing the court's dress code.
Officials at the Hempstead agency asked people wearing shorts, tank tops and beach wear to go home and change their clothes. They also had the option of paying their tickets.
The dress policy is posted clearly on the front door of the building and is also on the county website. Those turned away were still upset by the decision.
"I just ended up paying the ticket," says Dev Leget, of Queens. "They don't really give me any other option. It's a scheme they're running."
Beth Silverman, of Baldwin, says the policy should also be printed on traffic tickets, but adds that people should know better.
