Brentwood man pleads not guilty after wild police chase
A Brentwood man pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday after allegedly leading Suffolk police on a wild chase.
Police say they pulled Camilo Tatis over on Connetquot Avenue in Islip Terrace Tuesday at noon. As officers approached his vehicle, they say he sped off.
The chase ended 3 miles later in Oakdale after police say he drove through a fence, sideswiped an SUV and lost a tire. Police say Tatis, 28, was tossing packets of white powder out of his window during the pursuit.
Police say heroin packets were found in Tatis' car and that he was driving without a license. He's facing several charges including driving while ability impared and possession of a controlled substance.
Tatis' defense attorney Ira Weiss contends that his client was not under the influence of any substance at the time of his arrest.
