Police: Ronkonkoma man drowns at Smith Point park

Suffolk police say a Ronkonkoma man drowned at Smith Point County Park Monday.

A caller reported that a man was found unconscious in the water at around 12 p.m. The man, identified as 48-year-old Kerry Agosto, had been seen by witnesses swimming in the water just moments before he was found floating near the shore.

Beachgoers pulled Agosto from the water and attempted CPR. He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
