There is a renewed push to improve the quality of the waters of the Long Island Sound and its shores.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand recently announced new legislation that would put money into restoring the area.

"This legislation, if passed, would allow up to $65 million to be spent to restore and protect [the] Long Island Sound," says Adrianne Esposito, of the Citizens Campaign for the Environment. "We can do more things like protect our wetlands, our sea grass beds, and also protect endangered species."

Esposito says time is running out and the federal government has to step up to the plate because funding does equate to restoration.
