Nassau residents who live near John F. Kennedy International Airport heard new details Wednesday night about the Port Authority's plan to study plane noise in their communities.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey hosted a seminar in Jamaica, Queens outlining its plan to study and then mitigate the noise problem. Their work will include tracking noise and then creating a map to show the most affected areas.

Edward Knoesel, of the Port Authority, says they will consider recommending zoning changes near the airport. They will also be considering isolation techniques for windows in homes and schools.

The study will include a look at flight pattern changes too, as long as they don't just shift the noise to some other communities.

Officials say the studies could take up to three years to complete.
