Longwood M.S. project puts history on display

Students in Middle Island are using a miniature construction project to learn about the history of where they live.

The children at Longwood Middle School have been working hard on a project that will enlighten people about the Coram, Middle Island, Ridge and Yaphank area.

Some of facts that the student researchers generated include Artist Lake being named for famous artist Alonzo Chapel and Trinity Methodist Church being the oldest standing church in Coram.

Only three students graduated from Longwood Middle School in 1947. More than 800 will graduate this year.

The project will be on display in the school lobby Wednesday night during the sixth-grade awards ceremony.
