Police: Hempstead mom beat daughter with broomstick
A Hempstead mother is facing charges after being accused of beating her daughter with a broomstick over the weekend.
Police say Chriscelle Andrews, 53, of Hempstead, beat her 10-year-old daughter with a broomstick on Sunday, hurting her hand and breaking her arm. Andrews is an employee with the Nassau Department of Social Services.
During her arraignment Tuesday, the judge ordered Andrews held on $10,000 bond and told her to stay away from the little girl.
Andrews' lawyer says the girl's injuries happened when she fell on her school bus on Monday morning.
"Ms. Andrews denies these allegations and looks forward to her day in court so that she can resolve this matter and to get back to her three daughters," says attorney Joanne Squillace.
Police say the girl is staying with a family member. Child Protective Services would not comment on the case.
