Police: Officer dragged by dirt bike in Freeport
Police say an officer was hit by a dirt bike and dragged down a street Saturday night in Freeport.
According to police, 25-year-old Jovan Finch was recklessly driving his Kawasaki bike on Woodcleft Avenue near the Nautical Mile Festival when an officer signaled him to stop. Finch then allegedly swerved and hit the Freeport officer, dragging him a short distance.
When the officer tried to arrest Finch, police say he resisted and started kicking the officer. Additional Freeport officers were called to the scene, and had to use a Taser to gain control of Finch.
The officer was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
Finch was arraigned Sunday and pleaded not guilty to charges that included assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $55,000 bond.
