Freeport, Hempstead sign inter-municipal agreement
A new agreement was announced in Freeport Monday, which aims at saving residents money while keeping them safe.
Officials from the Town of Hempstead and Freeport Village signed an inter-municipal agreement. It provides fire protection to dozens of homeowners in a new condo complex that is located in an unincorporated area of Freeport.
Village residents will also be able to use the Town of Hempstead's sanitation drop-off area in Merrick. The area is reserved for homeowners to bring debris, including yard waste.
"This is a great example of efficiency in government, as this agreement will combine services for both the Town of Hempstead and the Village of Freeport, and reduce expenses for years to come," says Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy.
The agreement lasts until May 2018.
