Kindergarten Center closure vote postponed until June

The Plainview-Old Bethpage School Board decided to postpone a vote regarding the fate of the Kindergarten Center.
For a second evening in a row, parents packed a meeting to hear the school board discuss the controversial plan that would send kindergarten students to local elementary schools.
The center was opened 19 years ago to resolve an overcrowding issue.
According to the school board, the kindergarten center has seen a decline in enrollment in recent years.
School administrators say the money saved from closing the Kindergarten Center would help fund a ninth period of classes at the high school level.
Parents and teachers who oppose the plan say it will lead to overcrowding in the schools. They also say it will have a negative impact on the kindergarten students who will be mixed in with older students.
The vote was postponed until June 8.
