Nassau County has announced that it will be reassessing all homes and business in the county.
The new values will take effect Jan. 1, 2018.
The last time homes and businesses were reassessed in Nassau County was in 2003. Attorney Jeff Gold was a member of the Board of Assessors, a panel of people that monitored the process.
"Even with all that oversight, there were some tremendous mistakes," Gold told News 12. "I'm concerned there's no oversight this time."
The reassessment is expected to cost about $8 million, and will be done by one or more private companies hired by the county. They have not yet been named.
The Legislature could get a reassessment proposal from the county by June 22.
Several attempts to get more information about the reassessment program from the Nassau County Executive's Office were unsuccessful.
