A Smithtown doctor has been indicted by a grand jury and accused of illegally distributing pain pills to patients.
Federal prosecutors say Dr. Mitchel Fagin wrote prescriptions for oxycodone, methodone, and other pain pills to patients who did not need them between May 2012 and September 2014.
According to officials, Fagin also wrote prescriptions in exchange for sexual favors from female patients.
Fagin's attorney, Anthony Colleluori, says all of the accusations are false. He calls them "salacious" and says his client never wrote prescriptions for sex.
He was arraigned Friday in federal court and released on $250,000 bail. Fagin faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted.
