Random truck inspections take place in Suffolk

Random inspections are taking place on Long Island to get dangerous commercial trucks off the roads.
The inspections are being performed by multiple police agencies which are looking for violations.
They are being done under the umbrella of the Pine Barrens Law Enforcement Council.
Authorities are checking the weight of trucks, as well as looking for mechanical and environmental violations. Additionally, emissions will be checked, and trucks will be inspected to see if anything is leaking.
Each driver will have to show documents that the truck is properly licensed. Driver infractions will also be checked.
Police say 35 trucks were inspected during a safety check in Riverhead Monday. A total of 12 were pulled off the road, 10 of which for mechanical reasons. Two had unlicensed drivers.
More than 500 trucks faced random inspections last year. More than a third were taken off the road.
