Long Island families celebrate Mother's Day
Families from across Long Island celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday.
Rita Dehn, of Farmingdale, was not only celebrating Mother's Day, but her 106th birthday as well. She spent the afternoon with some of her family. She is a proud mother of two daughters, has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
New mom Lauren Goldstein, of Melville, marked the day by spending it with her 8-month-old daughter, Ella.
For Tricia Thomas-Powell, of Copaigue, being a mother is not about getting flowers and other gifts or going to a fancy brunch. She says it's about loving your kids, and allowing them to love you back.
It wasn't a relaxing day for everyone, however. The staff of the Flower Shop of Farmingdale, located on Main Street, was busy filling last-minute orders and making perfect arrangements.
Owner Jeanette Schmidt says Mother's Day is the busiest day of the year at the shop, and didn't have time to celebrate, herself.
