Fire destroys home at center of murder-suicide
Officials say an early morning fire destroyed a Mastic Beach home that was the scene of a murder-suicide last week.
The home on Woodside Drive was completely engulfed in flames just before 4 a.m. Police tell News 12 that there is no reason to believe the fire is suspicious and that it appears to have started accidentally.
Police say Wayne Street, 29, shot and killed his wife Jenni Lee, 28, in the home that the couple shared with their six children. Two of the couple's children, a toddler and a newborn, were in the home at the time of the couple's deaths.
Their other four children came home from school on the day of the incident and found the home was locked. They walked to a nearby ice cream shop to ask an adult for help. The adult returned with them and discovered the bodies.
A News 12 source says Wayne Street was previously interviewed in connection with an unsolved homicide last November in Mastic.
The Streets were renting the home, which was owned by Kevin Sookoo, of Massapequa. He was on the scene to tour the damage, but did not want to speak to News 12.
Investigators have not yet determined what sparked the fire.
