The Massapequa neighborhood that a slain NYPD officer called home is reeling at the news of his death.
Officer Brian Moore, 25, was shot in the head in Queens on Saturday. He was taken off of life support Monday.
Blue ribbons have been placed on nearly a half-dozen homes along North Boston Avenue in Massapequa in tribute to Moore. Flowers fill the front steps of his family's home.
Neighbors say news of Moore's death brings to mind a similar heart-breaking ordeal from the past. Nearly 30 years ago, another young police officer, 22-year-old Edward Byrne, was also killed in the line of duty. Like Moore, he was killed in Queens, and he lived on the same street, just a few doors down.
Funeral arrangements for Moore are expected this week.
