Runners pound pavement in LI Marathon

Runners from around the world converged on Long Island to take part in the annual Long Island Marathon Sunday.
The race kicked off at 8 a.m. in Uniondale. The 26.2-mile course started at Charles Lindbergh Boulevard and finishes at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
Oz Pearlman, a professional magician from New York City, was the first man to finish. He set a new course record with a time of 2 hours, 25 minutes and 27 seconds.
The first woman to finish was Kelly Gillen, 32, of Manhattan. She previously won in 2013.
Roads in the area were closed for the race, including parts of Jericho Turnpike and the Wantagh Parkway.
There were designated "cheering stations" for spectators, but no bags or backpacks were allowed for security reasons.
As part of Marathon weekend, the 1-mile and 5K races were held on Saturday.
