Bicyclist struck, killed in Holtsville
Suffolk police say a bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle in Holtsville Friday night.
It happened on Express Drive South west of Morris Avenue at around 10 p.m.
Police say a 2011 Hyundai that was headed east struck a bicyclist who was traveling in the right lane of traffic. The bicyclist, identified as Steven Preitz, 42, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 20-year-old Christopher Chizzoniti, of Holbrook, was not injured in the crash.
Police say no tickets were issued. The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check and an investigation into the incident is underway.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
