It was break-up day for the New York Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum Tuesday as players cleaned out their lockers one last time.
The team fell short Monday night in Game 7 against the Washington Capitals in the opening round of the playoffs. They will begin next season at Brooklyn's Barclays Center after 43 years at the "Old Barn."
"I walked in this morning and I just had an empty feeling in my stomach, and over time it will kick in that we're not coming back to this place," said Islanders forward Michael Grabner.
The Nassau Coliseum had been home to the Islanders since 1972, where they won four consecutive Stanley Cups in the early 1980s.
Christopher Pokorny, from Levittown, was among many fans showing support to their favorite players one last time at Nassau Coliseum.
"It hasn't really sunk in yet. I'm going to miss this building. I'm going to miss coming here," said Pokorny.
