Car slams into fence, tree; lands feet away from home

An out-of-control car slammed through a fence and plowed into a tree before coming to rest just feet from a house in East Islip Monday morning.

Police say the driver of the car was trying to avoid hitting a mail truck on Union Boulevard when she lost control of the car.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Lauren McNamee of Islip Terrace, clipped the mail truck and went up on two wheels in her 2014 Chrysler, according to a witness.

McNamee was taken to Southside Hospital with minor injuries. There was no one in the home at the time of the crash.

No summonses were issued in the incident. Police have not said if they believe speed may have been a factor.
