Town of N. Hempstead begins Operation Clean Sweep

Starting today, residents in the Town of North Hempstead will notice some extra drivers on the road as part of a big cleanup effort.

The town launched its annual Operation Clean Sweep Monday.

About 13 street sweepers started cleaning more than 900 miles of roads.

Last year, the town's street sweepers removed about 4 million pounds of debris, with an even higher total expected this year.

The Highway Department requests residents to refrain from parking vehicles on town roads from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. during Operation Clean Sweep.

From Monday, April 27 to May 1, all areas not within incorporated villages and south of the Long Island Expressway will be swept. From Monday, May 4 to May 8, all areas not within incorporated villages and north of the Long Island Expressway will be swept.
