Drug dealers get plea deals after probe into detective
Two drug dealers were given plea deals that drastically cut their sentences because their cases are connected to a Nassau detective under investigation.
Authorities say Detective Michael Cipullo is under investigation for the purchase of painkillers. He's now on desk duty.
Defense attorney Robert Schalk says he received a letter from the Nassau District Attorney's Office, notifying him that Cipullo, who took part in the case against his client Hakeem Shabazz, was under investigation. Sometime after that, Shabazz was offered a plea bargain with two-year prison term. Shabazz had previously been offered a deal for four years.
Another case involved a Franklin Square man who had been jailed a dozen times. He accepted a plea offer that his attorney believes was also influenced by Cipullo's involvement.
