VetsBuild program breaks ground in Huntington Station

Long Island veterans trained and certified by the United Way to build energy-efficient homes broke ground Wednesday in Huntington Station.

Purple Heart recipient Fabrizio Bustos, a combat veteran from Oakdale, is the supervisor on the energy-efficient home project known as VetsBuild. Two veteran families are set to move into the homes upon completion.

"The greatest joy somebody gets is when they do something for somebody else," said Bustos. "The fact that we are doing this for veterans, it gives me some good karma points."

Construction on the Zero Energy home is expected to get underway the first week of May.
