Plastic bag ban goes into effect for Southampton

Single-use plastic bags will no longer be allowed for distribution in Southampton effective today.

The town is among the first municipalities in the state to implement a plastic bag ban.

Shoppers are being urged to bring their own reusable bags or use recyclable or reusable paper bags given to them at stores.

Similar bans also take effect today in the villages of Quogue and Sagaponack.
