Thousands of students opted out of taking the English language arts Common Core exam, according to figures from a group that is critical of the test.
Parents opted out about 68,000 Long Island children from the three-day exam, which concluded Thursday, according to "Long Island Opt-Out." That number is more than triple from last year.
State education officials say districts could lose federal funding if they don't meet participation requirements, but supporters of the opt-out movement doubt that claim.
The math portion of the Common Core exam will be given next week.
