NY Times: Sen. Skelos, son face corruption probe
State Sen. Dean Skelos (R-9th District) and his son are reportedly the targets of a probe looking into possible corruption, according to a New York Times report.
The investigation centers around the state Senate majority leader, his son, Adam Skelos, and Arizona-based water treatment company AbTech Industries, which Adam works for, according to the newspaper.
Nassau County awarded AbTech a contract, even though the company didn't present the lowest bid. The probe reportedly centers around potential conflicts of interest and whether the senator intervened on behalf of AbTech.
One Rockville Centre resident told News 12 that she wasn't surprised by the allegations and that, in the end, AbTech may have been the best company for the job. Many locals expressed support for the well-known and high-ranking Long Island legislator.
Federal investigators are also reportedly looking into a $20,000 payment to Adam from a title-insurance company that he has never worked for.
In January, it was reported that the senator was being investigated for income that he received from a Uniondale law firm.
The investigation surrounding AbTech comes months after the arrest of former Democratic state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on corruption charges. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has testified before a federal grand jury about the new allegations against Skelos, according to Newsday.
Skelos released this statement to News 12: "I have and will continue to cooperate with any inquiry."
The Nassau District Attorney's Office confirmed that it will be conducting a comprehensive review of the county's contracting practices in light of the federal investigation.

News 12 was told that no specific contract or vendor is being reviewed at this point.
