Commack School District says it is "limited in its ability" to address an off-campus photograph of two high school students wearing swastika T-shirts.

In the photograph posted online, the two students are playing a drinking game while wearing T-shirts with swastikas drawn on them and the word "Auschwitz." The picture was taken during a house party on spring break.

"Our attorneys have advised us that given the fact that this incident took place off campus, during a recess, and during an event that was not school-sponsored, the school is limited in its ability to address this matter," the district said in a statement to News 12.

Rabbi Beth Klafter, of Temple Beth David, called the incident a "wake-up call."

"Our youth needs to be more sensitive and more knowledgeable. And not to use the Holocaust as some joke, which is horrific," says Rabbi Klafter.

The district told News 12 that it does not condone any form of discrimination or bullying. They are also making counseling available to any student affected by the incident.

Just a few months back, five Commack High School students were disciplined for a picture posted on Twitter. It showed them on campus wearing shirts that spelled "rape."
