The Mets topped the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0. The team has won 18 of their last 24 games against Philadelphia.
Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom sparkled on the mound. The 26-year-old right-hander had a good start last week against Washington, and turned in another strong performance today. DeGrom has a 1.37 career ERA against the Phillies in his three career starts.
The families of slain NYPD detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos threw the ceremonial first pitch. A moment of silence was also observed for Liu and Ramos prior to the game.
Fans decked out in blue and orange were excited to get back into the swing of things. Some optimistic Mets lovers who spoke with News 12 say the team could go all the way to the playoffs this year.
The Mets and Phillies will square off again tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is due to start at Citi Field for the first time since 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
