Cops: DWI dad had 9-year-old daughter in front seat

Police say a Bay Shore man was arrested Saturday night for allegedly driving drunk with his 9-year-old daughter in the car, and they say he had fled a crash scene earlier that evening.

Police responded to a call of a possibly intoxicated driver in Babylon shortly after 10 p.m. Officers located and stopped a black Toyota 4-Runner on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.

Officers say the driver, 30-year-old Jose Garcia-Lazo, of Bay Shore, was found to be intoxicated. They say his 9-year-old daughter was in the front passenger seat.

An investigation revealed that Garcia-Lazo had been involved in a crash about an hour earlier on Straight Path in Wyandanch, and he had allegedly fled the scene. No one was injured in the crash.

Garcia-Lazo is being charged with driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, driving while ability impaired, endangering the welfare of a child and leaving the scene of a reportable accident.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incidents to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
