Islanders clinch playoff spot with Bruins loss
The Islanders clinched a playoff spot Thursday night without lacing up their skates.
The team needed a loss by the Boston Bruins or Ottawa Senators to seal a postseason berth. The Senators shut out the Rangers, but the Bruins fell to the Florida Panthers 4-2.
Coincidentally, former Islanders forward Brad Boyes helped seal the victory with what turned out to be Panthers' third and winning goal.
