Bronx woman accused of multiple marriages pleads not guilty
A Bronx woman accused of marrying 10 men was indicted on charges of offering false instruments for filing Friday.
Officials say Liana Barrientos has married 10 men in 11 years, including one man in Huntington and another in Hempstead.
Investigators say the problem is she never bothered to get a divorce from many of them.
The case was brought to the attention of the Bronx County District Attorney's Office by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security's Investigation Division.
They revealed that several of the men Barrientos married were from 'red-flagged' countries which included Egypt, Turkey, Georgia, Pakistan, and Mali.
Authorities say the eighth man she married, Rashid Rajput, was even deported to his home country of Pakistan following an investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
The 39-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted, Barrientos faces up to four years behind bars.
