Islanders secure spot in playoffs for last season at Coliseum

Saturday night's regular season finale for the Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum will not be their last game in Uniondale.

The Islanders clinched a playoff spot Thursday night without lacing up their skates.

The team needed a loss by the Boston Bruins or Ottawa Senators to secure a postseason berth. The Senators shut out the Rangers, but the Bruins fell to the Florida Panthers 4-2.

Coincidentally, former Islanders forward Brad Boyes helped seal the victory with what turned out to be Panthers' third and winning goal.
