Fire damages 10 apartments in Westbury complex
A massive fire scorched an apartment complex in Westbury Saturday afternoon.
Residents evacuated themselves before firefighters arrived to battle the blaze at the Westwood Village apartment complex on Brush Hollow Road just before 4 p.m.
Some residents say they were not aware the building was burning until neighbors began shouting.
Firefighters say the windy conditions made it more difficult to put out the flames.
Ten apartments were damaged by the fire, officials say.
None of the building's residents were hurt, although officials say several firefighters suffered minor injuries.
The Nassau County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the flames.
